Chicago

Chicago in the Spring! Who doesn't love Chicago in the spring? Cubs, food, tulips… and great food and drink!

Came into Chicago on Thursday afternoon and found out the Cubbies were home! Of course we ventured over to the neighborhood bar, Michael’s Pizzeria & Tavern on Broadway, for snacks, beer and the game. Just as good as front row seats too! Even got to view the dugout and Joe Madden… delicious chicken strips with sides of honey mustard and buffalo hot sauce and a basket of fries. Delicious way to stay warm and enjoy our Cubbies! Then on to the play… Aladdin!

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Celebrated at El Mariachi Tequila Bar & Grill with Margs and chips to start. Split a burrito as they are like a football and we couldn't drag along the leftovers to the play… My Fair Lady! Perfect amount of food and ‘drink’!

After a couple days of family birthday celebrations in Libertyville, we wound up visiting breweries in Lakeview! Our first stop was Corridor Brewery & Provisions on Southport Ave. great ambiance and food selections too. Have two children that avoid gluten, at least in their food, so their options were great. Started with flights of beer, Honey Sriracha Wings, Red Curry Mussels and Frites with Mustard Herb Mayo. Such a yummy combination! Then we moved on to Artisan Pizzas baked in a clay hearth oven! Shared Mushroom, Leek & Goat Cheese, as well as Spanish Chorizo & Date pizzas with Papaya and Chopped Salads. My daughter especially loved the Blueberry Cider and my grandson loved the fritz with ketchup too!

Next stop…Dry Hop Brewers! Always wanted to come here for brunch, but since we just ate, beer & cider were on tap! I always get a flight, that way I don't have to drink an entire beer I don't care for and can them share too. How else do you know what to try first? Right?

Dinner came quickly since we had brunch, so decided to carry out sushi. Ordered from Nano Sushi on N. Broadway.. delish! The Caribbean and Chicago were so yummy with just the right amount of crunch and zing from the cucumber and cilantro. We also ordered a couple staple favorites, SpicyTuna and a Rainbow roll. All rolls were a great size with nice flavor! Extra ginger is also a plus! We even got free Crab Rangoon too!

One of my favorite breakfast places on the north side is Nookies! Never had a bad meal… always great! Today I had a difficult decision between Huevos Rancheros or Chiliquiles… went with the Rancheros as I wasn't super hungry. Been eating for days… right? This place has the best specialty pancakes and French toast too!

Last meal today was really a snack at Ditkas! After shopping for hours, my daughter and I stopped for a bit of wine and fried calamari. The calamari were delicately fried and tender. Served with cocktail and tartar sauce… they were perfect. Some of the best I have had in a long time! Until I come to Chicago again… I'll be trying to eat healthier! Cheers!
